Home Insurance Coverage Limit Calculator
Estimate a recommended home insurance dwelling coverage limit based on rebuild cost, square footage, cost per square foot, upgrades, and optional buffers.
How to use this home insurance coverage limit calculator
- Enter your home square footage and estimated rebuild cost per square foot.
- Optionally add upgrade/finish costs and debris removal percentage.
- Choose an inflation/buffer percentage for safety.
- Calculate a recommended dwelling coverage limit estimate.
Example
If your home is 2,000 sq ft, rebuild cost is $200/sq ft, upgrades are $20,000, debris removal is 5%, and buffer is 10%:
- Base rebuild cost = 2,000 × $200 = $400,000
- Add upgrades = $400,000 + $20,000 = $420,000
- Debris removal (5%) = $21,000 → subtotal $441,000
- Buffer (10%) = $44,100 → recommended limit ≈ $485,100
