Oil Futures P/L Calculator
Estimate profit/loss for an oil futures position using entry price, exit price, number of contracts, and contract size (barrels per contract).
Estimate futures profit/loss from price movement and position size. This tool uses a simple contract math model (price per barrel × barrels per contract × number of contracts).
Position side
This is P/L from price change only. Fees, funding, and slippage are not included.
Your trade entry level.
Your trade exit level.
Useful for quick what-if checks.
Number of futures contracts.
Example: 1,000 bbl/contract (varies by product).
Total barrels: 2,000 bbl (2 contracts × 1,000 bbl)
P/L per barrel (long): +$4.00
Total P/L: +$8000.00
Notional at entry: $156000.00
Notional at exit: $164000.00
Notional is price × barrels. This is not margin requirement.
How to use this oil futures p/l calculator
- Select long or short position.
- Enter entry price and exit price (per barrel).
- Enter number of contracts and barrels per contract.
- Review P/L per barrel, total P/L, and notional exposure.
Example
If you go long 2 contracts, entry $78, exit $82, 1,000 bbl/contract:
- P/L per barrel = 82 − 78 = $4
- Total barrels = 2 × 1,000 = 2,000 bbl
- Total P/L = 4 × 2,000 = $8,000
